Carlos Tevez is aiming to press his claim for a World Cup starting berth when Argentina take on Canada in a friendly on Monday. With the world cup betting odds coming down on Argentina all the time, Manager Diego maradona is under pressure to make sure he picks the right team.
Maradona appeared to have settled for Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain as his front pairing in a 4-4-2 line-up following the 1-0 win over Germany in March. But the team practised on Saturday with a three-man attack, which also included Tevez, and the trio are now set to be tried out in Monday’s friendly against Canada.
Tevez is looking forward to featuring in such a formation, saying: “If I play with another two forwards I’d be fine because I already did that many times.
Speaking about being left out of the side, Tevez was in a confident mood. “Diego’s not going to have it easy, it’s going to be hard for him. It’s a nice, healthy competition among team mates, it’s competing with the best football’s got. You go showing in training that you’re up for playing, then Diego decides who’s in best form to face Nigeria.”
“This isn’t like a world cup free bet – playing for Argentina means so much to me that I will play until I can’t run any longer!
