Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that defender Juan Foyth has sustained a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle and that is expected to keep him out of action until September at the least. The Argentina international picked up the injury during the Audi Cup final against Bayern Munich and he is now set to miss the beginning of the new Premier League season.

Spurs start the league season with a home game against Aston Villa and they should be fancied to secure all three points. However, their next challenge would come against Manchester City on the road and that is bound to test their credentials despite outclassing the Citizens in the Champions League quarter-final last season on the away-goal rule.
In Premier League terms, Spurs have lost each of the past four meetings versus the reigning champions and they need to come up with a strong performance in order to at least grab a point from Pep Guardiola’s side. Meanwhile, the north London giants have strengthened the squad further with the additions of Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon on deadline day. The former of those has arrived on a season-long loan from Real Betis with the option to buy at the end of the season.
