Several West Ham fans have taken to their respective Twitter handles to ask for the return of Carlos Tevez even at the age of 37. The Hammers faithful see Carlos Tevez as a good alternative to star striker Michail Antonio.

Antonio didn’t start his professional football career as a striker but he has been able to model his game to be a striker in recent years. The Jamaican international is the only recognised striker in the West Ham first team squad and his absence was felt during the Premier League defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

Antonio was suspended for the Manchester United game on Sunday after his red card in the penultimate league game away to Southampton. He received a second yellow card in added time of second half and was sent off as a result as West Ham were forced to a goalless draw by hosts Southampton.

West Ham United felt the absence of Antonio on the attacking front against Manchester United as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

Carlos Tevez is still a popular name amongst the Hammers fans after he played a big role in the club escaping relegation from the top flight in 2007. The veteran striker is presently a free agent after leaving boyhood club Boca Juniors earlier this year. A lot of West Ham fans think that Carlos Tevez could still do a good job this season as an alternative for Antonio in the event of injury or suspension like it was witnessed against the Red Devils last weekend.

Tevez made a controversial move to West Ham United from Brazilian side Corinthians in August 2006 alongside compatriot Javier Mascherano and he went on to score seven goals and five assists in 29 games before leaving the East London club after one season.
